Wishlist Wednesday is hosted by Pen to Paper and it is where you talk about one book which is on your wishlist.
My Wishlist Wednesday book is...

AN EMBER IN THE ASHES BY SABAA TAHIR

Set in a terrifyingly brutal Rome-like world, An Ember in the Ashes is an epic fantasy debut about an orphan fighting for her family and a soldier fighting for his freedom. It’s a story that’s literally burning to be told.
LAIA is a Scholar living under the iron-fisted rule of the Martial Empire. When her brother is arrested for treason, Laia goes undercover as a slave at the empire’s greatest military academy in exchange for assistance from rebel Scholars who claim that they will help to save her brother from execution.
ELIAS is the academy’s finest soldier— and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias is considering deserting the military, but before he can, he’s ordered to participate in a ruthless contest to choose the next Martial emperor.
When Laia and Elias’s paths cross at the academy, they find that their destinies are more intertwined than either could have imagined and that their choices will change the future of the empire itself.
Vow your blood and body to the empire.
Keep your heart for yourself.

I added this book to my wishlist a few weeks ago on July 15th.

This book is now on my wishlist because a friend of mine on Goodreads added to theirs and I just happened to see it and was immediately attracted to the book.

What appeals to me the most is the 'brutal Rome-like world'. Anything Rome like is an attraction to me. I also love the fact that it is told from two completely different points of view - LAIA and ELIAS.

That cover is extremely attractive as well. I love the font used on the title and the background image of the sandy landscape and buildings along with the silhouetted people. This is one of those books that I would completely read because of the cover, shame I know..

But along with that amazing cover, the blurb is equally intriguing. Conflict and blood and did I mention ROME!! This story shoes potential and I hope it lives up to my high expectations now.

I have never heard of Sabaa Tahir before this, so I don't know anything about her writing style or genre preferences. Actually, after a Goodreads check - this is her debut novel.

An Ember In The Ashes comes out April 28th 2015!!!!!

Silver Shadows Release Day

Silver Shadows Release Day

Today it is SILVER SHADOWS RELEASE DAY!!!!! Ahhhhhh, after finishing The Fiery Heart, I just couldn't wait for this book and I still can't wait for this book. Me, not living anywhere near a book shop means I won't be able to get my copy of Silver Shadows until sometime in August :(
But I will get it. THAT is certain!!

As I posted in my The Fiery Heart review, I have a few speculations as to what may or may not happen in the book. Of course I'm no psychic (can never spell any word that starts like that!!!) so everything I probably predict will probably not happen!! But hey, it was just for fun!!

MY PREDICTIONS: (Do NOT Read Further If You Don't Want To)
Hmmm I believe that (well this may be obvious) but I think that the Alchemists are actually going to influence Sydney just like they did with Keith, not by a tattoo but possibly by torture and then she's going to see Adrian and she will be like a zombie and Adrian will go through turmoil to try and get his Sydney back. Either that or she escapes and runs away with Adrian on one of there escape plans and she works with Marcus to try and cripple the Alchemists.
So they are my predictions. I may not be anywhere close but I won't be able to find out till August :(

Who already has their copy of Silver Shadows?? And who else is like me, that can't get their hands on a copy until sometime in August? Let me know!!! :D

And this week's book is....
Prodigy
by Marie Lu

On My Shelves #7

On My Shelves #7

These are books which are on my shelves at home but which I haven't got around to reading yet :(

For this week the book is.....

BIRTHMARKED BY CARAGH M. O' BRIEN

IN THE ENCLAVE, YOUR SCARS SET YOU APART, and the newly born will change the future.
In the future, in a world baked dry by the harsh sun, there are those who live inside the walled Enclave and those, like sixteen-year-old Gaia Stone, who live outside. Following in her mother's footsteps Gaia has become a midwife, delivering babies in the world outside the wall and handing a quota over to be "advanced" into the privileged society of the Enclave. Gaia has always believed this is her duty, until the night her mother and father are arrested by the very people they so loyally serve. Now Gaia is forced to question everything she has been taught, but her choice is simple: enter the world of the Enclave to rescue her parents, or die trying.
A stunning adventure brought to life by a memorable heroine, this dystopian debut will have readers racing all the way to the dramatic finish.

I got Birthmarked a while back (perhaps 3 years ago) and still haven't got around to reading it yet. I bought it because I absolutely love dystopia, it is my favourite genre along with fantasy and the blurb of this book just seemed to grab my attention. But, still I haven't got to it yet after all that time. That is all going to change though!!.

Book Review - The Fledgling Handbook 101 by P.C Cast

The Fledgling Handbook 101

Author: P.C Cast

Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult, Paranormal, Vampires

Published: January 1 2010

Pages: 157 pages (Hardback Edition) (Atom)

Read: July 2014

Rating: 3 Stars

"Merry meet, fledgling.""""Welcome to a new life, a new world, and a new you. Welcome to the House of Night!"

This might seem like a scary time, Fledgling, but never fear! As you start your journey through the ancient halls of the House of Night, this indispensable handbook will aid you in your transition from human to fledgling. Within these pages you will find invaluable information about the history of vampyres. You will also come to a better understanding of your body's transformation, as well as read words of hope from great vampyres of the past and learn essential foundations of rituals and lore. Now, Fledgling, read on. A new life awaits you; your path to that magickal future begins here!

This is going to be a short review that doesn't follow the usual set-up of Short Summary, Plot Talk, Character Talk yadda, yadda, yadda.

This little handbook here is like an opening into the world of the House of Night series. I read it this month because I plan to start the series when the final book comes out in October(?). I found this handbook to be quite interesting with little short stories of history and also it explains the biological changes that take place to a vampyre (I must admit, that spelling had me frustrated). So yes, those parts were interesting, the rest not so much.

Yes, I liked this book, didn't love it, was bored when reading it at parts, but I believe it is a nice little opening to world of vampyre in the House of Night series.

Book Review - The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong

The Summoning

(Darkest Powers #1)

Author: Kelley Armstrong

Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult, Paranormal

Published: July 3 2008

Pages: 390 pages (Paperback Edition) (Orbit)

Read: July 2014

Rating: 5 Stars

All Chloe Saunders wants is a life like any normal teenager – the chance to get through school, make friends, and maybe meet a boy. But when she starts seeing ghosts, she knows that life will never be the same again.

Soon the ghosts are everywhere, demanding her attention. When Chloe finally breaks down, she’s admitted to a group home for disturbed kids. At first Lyle House seems okay, but as she gets to know the other patients – charming Simon and his ominous, unsmiling brother Derek, obnoxious Tori, and Rae, who has a 'thing' for fire – Chloe begins to realise that something strange and sinister binds them all together, and it isn’t your usual ‘problem kid’ behaviour.

And they’re about to discover that Lyle House is not your usual group home, either..

The Summoning is the first book in the Darkest Powers trilogy which follows the protagonist Chloe Saunders as she delves into a dangerous, mysterious world that was kept secret from her her whole life.

The plot of this novel is strong. It kept me completely immersed in the story as new developments showed and the story moved forward. I thoroughly enjoyed the pace of the plot as it was neither too slow or too fast but just right to keep me hanging onto every page. It was unpredictable (which is the best thing a novel can be) and I was often left in the 'Oh My God Did That Just Happen!!' phase. I also extremely enjoyed the vivid imagery of this novel. I love haunted, dark tales and this book just kept the graphic ghost scenes coming.

I found that it was easy connect with most of the characters although to be honest I really only care about two. Chloe, herself, and a boy called Derek. Apart from Liz as well all the other characters felt a bit meh to me. I hated Tori, Rae really annoyed me at the end and now I really dislike her and I don't know how I feel about Simon, he's kinda just there with no emotional attachment from me. Don't get me wrong though, just because I didn't like most of the characters didn't in any way affect my enjoyment of the book.

I loved this book and to list out the things that I liked about it would take too long!! I am just a crazy Kelley Armstrong fan!!

To my dislikes, it was mainly just some of those characters which I ranted about above and will not go into again.

The ending of this book had me sad. Really really sad. And to be honest (MINOR SPOILER AHEAD) the ending reminded me of The Fiery Heart ending by Richelle Mead. It was just that damn good cliffhanger stage where you are dying to read the next book to see where it all goes.

So yes, I enjoyed this book immensely and yes I will be reading the rest of the series. I have the books waiting on my shelf. I just have to read the 6 other book that I have already started this month.

*PS* There are also plenty of novellas with this series and I will be posting up one complete review about all the novellas together, when I read them.

So that's it :) I hope you enjoyed my review!!!

Wishlist Wednesday is hosted by Pen to Paper and it is where you talk about one book which is on your wishlist.
My Wishlist Wednesday book is...

SILVER SHADOWS BY RICHELLE MEAD

Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives.
In The Fiery Heart, Sydney risked everything to follow her gut, walking a dangerous line to keep her feelings hidden from the Alchemists.
Now in the aftermath of an event that ripped their world apart, Sydney and Adrian struggle to pick up the pieces and find their way back to each other. But first, they have to survive.
For Sydney, trapped and surrounded by adversaries, life becomes a daily struggle to hold on to her identity and the memories of those she loves. Meanwhile, Adrian clings to hope in the face of those who tell him Sydney is a lost cause, but the battle proves daunting as old demons and new temptations begin to seize hold of him. . . .
Their worst fears now a chilling reality, Sydney and Adrian face their darkest hour in this heart-pounding fifth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where all bets are off.

Silver Shadows has been on my wishlist since Bloodlines started and it was still known as 'Untitled'. That is because I loved Richelle Mead's 'Vampire Academy' series and then 'Bloodlines' once I started it.

This book is on my wishlist because I adore the Bloodlines series and after the ending of 'The Fiery Heart' I am desperate to find out what happens next. It's already killing me waiting so long.

What appeals to me the most about this book is that from the rest of the Bloodlines series I know that I care for the characters and I want to see what becomes of them especially in light of this tragedy.

The cover fits well with all the other books in the series, which I'm grateful for. There is nothing worse than changing the cover before the series ends!! *cough* Vampire Academy *cough* Although, in my opinion, they are not the best visually, I still like them enough.

As for the blurb, it has me completely intrigued. Sydney and Adrian are both in trouble and I am dying to know what happens to them both along with the obvious question, will they both survive??

Richelle Mead is a fantastic author. She is one of the few that I would read all the books they have written, After Vampire Academy I love her and even more now with Bloodlines.  am even going to start her adult novels soon. That is how hooked I am!!

So, guys what do you think of my choice?
Are any of ye excited for Silver Shadows?
And remember.....
4 MORE DAYS TO GO!!!

BookTube-A-Thon 2014

BookTube-A-Thon is an online read-a-thon hosted by Ariel Bissett.

Currently Reading - 7 July 2014

Currently Reading - 7 July 2014

I am still currently reading these books from the last post:
  • Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone
abandoned these books to read again some other time from the last post:
  • None, I have not abandoned any books :)

I have finished these books from the last post:
  • Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong
  • Popular: A Memoir by Maya Van Wagenen

Now added to my Currently Reading pile are:

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
(The Grisha #1)

The Shadow Fold, a swathe of impenetrable darkness, crawling with monsters that feast on human flesh, is slowly destroying the once-great nation of Ravka. Alina, a pale, lonely orphan, discovers a unique power that thrusts her into the lavish world of the kingdom's magical elite - the Grisha. Could she be the key to unravelling the dark fabric of the Shadow Fold and setting Ravka free? The Darkling, a creature of seductive charm and terrifying power, leader of the Grisha. If Alina is to fulfil her destiny, she must discover how to unlock her gift and face up to her dangerous attraction to him. But what of Mal, Alina's childhood best friend? As Alina contemplates her dazzling new future, why can't she ever quite forget him?

This is the first time I'll be reading a book by Leigh Bardugo and I can't wait to see what it's like.

Prodigy by Marie Lu
(Legend #2)

Injured and on the run, it has been seven days since June and Day barely escaped Los Angeles and the Republic with their lives. Day is believed dead having lost his own brother to an execution squad who thought they were assassinating him. June is now the Republic's most wanted traitor. Desperate for help, they turn to the Patriots - a vigilante rebel group sworn to bring down the Republic. But can they trust them or have they unwittingly become pawns in the most terrifying of political games?

I loved Legend and am disgusted with myself that I haven't read Prodigy sooner but alas, at least I'm reading it now.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Mass
(Throne of Glass #1)

In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king's champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.
The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass--and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

I have heard amazing things about this book and can't wait to see does it live up to the hype.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
(The Forest of Hands and Teeth #1)

In Mary's world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary’s truths are failing her. She’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future—between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?

Sounds so creepy O.o

Tiger's Curse by Collen Houck
(The Tiger Saga #1)

Would you risk it all to change your destiny? The last thing Kelsey Hayes thought she'd be doing this summer was trying to break a 300-year-old Indian curse. With a mysterious white tiger named Ren. Halfway around the world. But that's exactly what happened. Face-to-face with dark forces, spellbinding magic, and mystical worlds where nothing is what it seems, Kelsey risks everything to piece together an ancient prophecy that could break the curse forever.

I love the aspect of this book, but I've heard mixed reviews so I'll see...

Where She Went by Gayle Forman
(If I Stay #2)

If you had a second chance at first love . . . would you take it?
It's been three years since Adam's love saved Mia after the accident that annihilated life as she knew it . . . and three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life forever.
Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Julliard's rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia's home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future - and each other.
Told from Adam's point of view in the spare, powerful prose that defined If I StayWhere She Went explores the devastation of grief, the promise of new hope, and the flame of rekindled romance.

I loved 'If I Stay' and can't wait to see through Adam's point of view and to find out what happened in the end.

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

This is one where I've seen the movie before reading the book. I loved the movie so bring on the book!!!

TBR Jar

TBR Jar

I have started a TBR Jar, well it's actually more of a box because of the idea Constance had. It was an amazing idea of putting the names of all your books in a jar/box and then picking out a name at random when you want to read a book.

Here is my TBR Box:

So here is my box!!! With the names of all my books that I haven't read yet which are sitting on my shelves at home.

Already I have 3 names picked out because my little brother said I should have a book for every bookmark I have, and I have a good few bookmarks!!! :P
So I got my little brother to pick out three names which are now on my Currently Reading list.

Here are the books:

  • Prodigy by Marie Lu
  • The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
  • Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck

News about Memes:

I have decided to stop doing Shelf Candy Saturday and Sunday Bought, Borrowed and Bagged because as of late my weekends are extremely busy and honestly I won't be getting new books every week for the Sunday B, B & B so I'll just have a book haul at the end of the month instead.

The Books I Discovered This Week:

This week I discovered 2 books!! One by a new author and the other a continuation to a series I'm reading. Here are the books!!....

Gates of Thread and Stone by Lori M. Lee
In the Labyrinth, we had a saying: keep silent, keep still, keep safe.
In a city of walls and secrets, where only one man is supposed to possess magic, seventeen-year-old Kai struggles to keep hidden her own secret—she can manipulate the threads of time. When Kai was eight, she was found by Reev on the riverbank, and her “brother” has taken care of her ever since. Kai doesn’t know where her ability comes from—or where shecame from. All that matters is that she and Reev stay together, and maybe one day move out of the freight container they call home, away from the metal walls of the Labyrinth. Kai’s only friend is Avan, the shopkeeper’s son with the scandalous reputation that both frightens and intrigues her.
Then Reev disappears. When keeping silent and safe means losing him forever, Kai vows to do whatever it takes to find him. She will leave the only home she’s ever known and risk getting caught up in a revolution centuries in the making. But to save Reev, Kai must unravel the threads of her past and face shocking truths about her brother, her friendship with Avan, and her unique power.

This book was also mentioned on my Wishlist Wednesday for this week and I found this on Goodreads after someone added it to there to-read list. So I checked it out, had a good feeling about it and now can't wait to read it.

Empire of Night by Kelley Armstrong

Sisters Moria and Ashyn are the Keeper and Seeker of Edgewood. Or at least, they were.

Their village is gone. Their friends have betrayed them. And now, the emperor has sent them on a mission to rescue the children of Edgewood—accompanied by Prince Tyrus and a small band of imperial warriors. But the journey proves more perilous than they could have imagined. With treachery and unrest mounting in the empire, Moria and Ashyn will have to draw on all their influence and power to overcome deadly enemies—not all of them human—and even avert an all-out war.

I found this also on Goodreads after finishing the first book 'Sea of Shadows'. I loved this book and can't wait until this one comes out do I can find out what happens....

Gates of Thread and Stone is a new addition to my wishlist. I actually just found this book this week so expect it to make an appearance in my Friday Finds post as well.

I added this book to my wishlist because it sounds intriguing. It's title is also similar to 'Daughter of Smoke and Bone' and those books were amazing so comparisons have to be made. I hope it lives to the high expectation I have already created for this book.

What appeals to me most about this book is the magic aspect. I love these fantasy novels that take you into a completely different world. And this seems like one of those books. I just can't wait to get my hands on this one....I just have one of those feelings!!

And look at that cover!! It is spectacular. I love it. I seriously do. I hope that the UK Edition has this cover. It better have this cover!! The writing, the background image, it is just so appealing to the eyes. I think it is absolutely beautiful.

As for the blurb, there s quite an intriguing story there. One that I find appealing and can't wait to read. I know that is the only thing I'm saying in this post!!

I have never read or researched this author before so I don't know if this is her first novel or anything, so it will be a surprise to see her writing style and story telling techniques.

Gates of Thread and Stone will be a book that I will be keeping a look-out for. And for everyone it's expected release date is August 5th 2014.
