<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">By way of a staggering deception, Karou has taken control of the chimaera rebellion and is intent on steering its course away from dead-end vengeance. The future rests on her, if there can even be a future for the chimaera in war-ravaged Eretz.
<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">When Jael's brutal seraph army trespasses into the human world, the unthinkable becomes essential, and Karou and Akiva must ally their enemy armies against the threat. It is a twisted version of their long-ago dream, and they begin to hope that it might forge a way forward for their people.
<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">And, perhaps, for themselves. Toward a new way of living, and maybe even love.
<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">But there are bigger threats than Jael in the offing. A vicious queen is hunting Akiva, and, in the skies of Eretz ... something is happening. Massive stains are spreading like bruises from horizon to horizon; the great winged stormhunters are gathering as if summoned, ceaselessly circling, and a deep sense of wrong pervades the world.
<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">From the streets of Rome to the caves of the Kirin and beyond, humans, chimaera and seraphim will fight, strive, love, and die in an epic theater that transcends good and evil, right and wrong, friend and enemy.

Dreams of Gods and Monsters was the final book in the trilogy Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor.

I was so apprehensive to read this book. I bought it way back when the book was released. I started the book then and put it down because hell I didn't want to finish up with this world! So then I said I need to read this now and I read this so slowly... But I finally did finish this book and it was just amazing!

I can't believe I'm finished this series! Ahhh I won't have any more adventures with Karou and Akiva and Zusanne and Mik and everyone and I just need more. Crossing fingers and hoping Laini Taylor might come back to this world and write a spin off or something.

But anyhoo. This book was a perfect conclusion. It was long, action packed, questions were answered and it just concluded the trilogy so well.

Everyone knows I adore Karou. She is high on my favourite female characters list and I just loved the way that her story concluded in this. It was just fitting. The ending was fitting for the trilogy and by damn, I love this trilogy!

And I cannot wait for Laini Taylor's new book, Strange The Dreamer, which is due to come out in March 2017. I can not wait! Because it just sounds so amazing! Like her Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy.

Am I Normal Yet? is the first novel in Holly Borne's companion trilogy The Spinster Club. In Am I Normal Yet? we meet our main character Evie as she tries to what she belives become 'normal'. Evie has a mental illness, OCD, which she had been labelled for in her previous school so now at a new school, at a new beginning with her medication decreasing Evie wants to be like every other sixteen year old girl and that means she wants a boyfriend. And so we follow her story.

I met Holly Bourne last October and from hearing her talk about her books I instantly just needed to pick them up. So I bought all her books at the event because I knew from just meeting Holly Bourne and then with the hype that was surrounding this book that I would read it eventually.

Honestly, I did put this book off for quite some time because from reading the synopsis I really thought this book wouldn't be what I have an interest in. From the blurb I got the story of a girl just looking to find a boyfriend. In no way did I think I would be so wrong about the premise of a book after reading the back of the cover.

This book is so deep. It is such an inspiring and life changing story to read. It was incredible. I fell in love with the main character Evie and our two side characters Lottie and Amber which feature in the next two books. I was blown away by this story.

Evie's personality just made this book. I loved her wittiness. I literally fell in love with Evie. She became such a favourite character of mine. I felt so much emotions for her.

This book left me laughing, shaking with anger, bursting into tears and smiling until there was no tomorrow. It was such an emotional roller-coaster. I really can't wait to keep continuing on with this companion trilogy and finding out what happens in Lottie's book and of course seeing more of Evie in it too.

Yup this is definitely one of those books that I wished I had read sooner. But I'm so glad that I did read this book and all thanks to the amazingness that is the author Holly that made me pick this up in the first place.
My TBR has increased by 15 books since February.

48 of the 74 books are still on this TBR from February.

Now I have decided that I want to work really hard at making my TBR 50 or less by the end of this year and that is a goal I'm hoping to keep up with.

Have you read any of these books. If so, which ones would you recommend? :)

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "georgia" , serif; line-height: 19.32px;">Book 24/65 - 2016 Goodreads Reading Challenge

The Creeper Man is Dawn Kurtagich's second novel and I was highly anticipating this since I heard of its release back at the beginning of the year I think it was.

I was blown away by The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich so I had extreme expectations for this book.

And it did not disappoint.

I love how creepy Dawn Kurtagich makes her books. Like man, the creeper man, the descriptions of this character alone had me sleeping with the lights on but that was not only the scary description in this book.

This book was just apprehension, tension and looming dread from the very first page. I love Dawn's writing style. It is just perfect for the genre of books she writes. The disjointed, descriptive, write as the characters thinks and speaks just adds so much to the horror feeling of this novel.

I was incredibly spooked. And I loved the characters so much that I was so scared for them and they were just incredibly fleshed out and deep that they were literally like real individual people for me and I love it when characters are like that. Everything they felt, I felt for them and I was just so invested in these characters.

Then the ending of the novel had to be one of the biggest twists I've ever read in a novel. I was not expecting it at all. The plot of this book was incredible and that ending just made it ten times more fascinating and I was utterly shocked just finding out what was going on. Out of all the twists that I was creating in my mind, like betrayals and other weird conclusions, I never, ever, ever guessed or even had an inkling at what that ending revealed.

This book, just like The Dead House, was stunning. The physical format, the writing, the characters, the story, the ending. Everything was just perfect and Dawn Kurtagich is now one of my auto-buy authors. I will be excitedly awaiting more book news from Dawn as I am going to read every book that she writes. Simple as.

Dear sweet lord above! This book was just a crazy roller-coaster for my emotions. I mean crazy roller-coaster. So you can indeed expect this review to be just my crazy, jumbled thoughts all over the place too. Are you ready for the madness!!

But no need to be afraid - there will be no spoilers. Even though I'm possibly sure everyone in the world has read this novel right now. You don't know how hard it was to keep away from spoilers after the first few weeks this book was released. I literally just stayed away from all social media. And thankfully I wasn't spoiled for anything!

Now where exactly do I begin?? How about how I felt after I finished ACOTAR? Well, I, just like many others was completely happy and loved up with the idea that Tamlin and Feyre got away but I know I was one of those people that just could not forget about Rhysand. He was gorgeous and addictive in ACOTAR and now I am solely and will be forever Team Rhysand after finished A Court of Mist and Fury. I remember needing this book after finishing ACOTAR because I needed to know what would happen with that bargain and as soon as Rhysand appeared in A Court of Mist and Fury I knew he was exactly what I was waiting for.. Come on, he is just ridiculously sexy, right?? (I love him!!)

Then we got new characters into this world that just became more favourites to add to the list! The Night Court gang was just amazing. They were amazing characters and I instantly fell in love with each of them and their back stories. All so tragic, but all which made them what they are.

What I really loved more about this book was the world building and the plot behind the whole novel. There was so much more in this novel. There were so many stories and back stories of characters that came out in this book that just made this world fill out more as well as developing each character with them. And I thoroughly enjoyed that. I enjoyed being able to see past and present of this world.

And the plot! As I mentioned above it was one the aspects that I loved about this book and boy, oh boy, the plot in this book was delicious. I found with ACOTAR, even though I loved it, it took me a while to actually get through the book but that was not the case with this one. When it wasn't action packed it was giving me the back stories and fleshing out the world and character and all the twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I think I was left shocked on so many occassions with this book when I didn't see what was coming. And hello emotional roller-coaster because these twists and turns had me shocked, frustrated, sad, betrayed, happy, devastated and everything in between.

I really can't wait to get the next book into my hands and see what happens. That ending was just the epitome of doom. What the hell is going to happen? Book 3 is definitely going to have me fearing the survival of every single character in this novel. I have not read a series ender by Sarah J. Maas before and I just know it is going to be epic. (Yes, I know she announced 3 more books in the ACOTAR series but I believe they are going to be a spin-off centering around different characters, can't wait for that either!!)

I knew that was going to be a jumbled mess of words... good luck to all who chance at deciphering it into sometime logical....

Their differences have brought them closer, but as she turns sixteen Caddy begins to wish she could be a bit more like Rosie – confident, funny and interesting. As Suzanne’s past is revealed and her present begins to unravel, Caddy begins to see how much fun a little trouble can be.

Isn't the cover of this book just stunning! I must admit that the cover was the reason I was drawn to this book and then I read that it was all about female friendships and I was like 'that'll do, I'm picking this up right now!'

And I am so happy that I did pick this up because I truly enjoyed this book so much. And not in the way that 'enjoy' usually means. This book was so heartbreaking. The friendships so real, complicated and toxic.

I enjoyed that each character was so realistic. Each had many flaws and there were times when I just sat there and thought 'what the hell are you doing?' but that is the way things are in life. We all make mistakes. Relationships, friendships, they are all complicated. There is nothing ever simple or straightforward. There is nothing ever easy. And this book portrays the hardship of a toxic friendship and how it affects both people in the friendship and others outside.

Again, I'm just going to say it, that I enjoyed this book because of the realness behind it. Even the ending of this book didn't wrap everything up in a nice little bow. It was real! This book was such a refreshing read because of this and I would put this book in line with 'Asking For It by Louise O' Neill' simply because they are both realistic and true and don't sugarcoat hard topics.

I will be keeping my eyes out for more novels from Sara Barnard especially after loving this book so much!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Top Ten Books Set In An Apocalyptic / Dystopian World

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish and consists of them picking a topic each week for us bloggers to list our Top Ten.

The theme for this week is your top ten books set in a X setting and for this I've chosen the old classic apocalyptic / dystopian setting as I've been getting back into these books recently and decided to go back through my favourites!

1. Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick
From seeing many posts from me you all know that I just love this zombie apocalypse series. A very underated but amazing trilogy and one that I would definitely recommend for this theme!

2. Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman
This novel and this series is another amazing dystopian novel that will just take your breathe away. I loved these so much and again would recommend to everyone.

3. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
I believe everyone has already read or watched the movies for this series and again this was my first dystopian series I had ever read so it will hold a place in my heart as my love for this genre grows.

4. Feed by Mira Grant
I was left breatheless and speechless after I finished the first book in this series. It was one of the few that gave me a book hangover and I've been so heartbroken to pick up the rest of the books in the series but I will definitely because this is a very unique take on a zombie apocalypse involving bloggers, blogging and politics.

5. Parasite by Mira Grant
Another fascinating dystopian / science fiction novel by Mira Grant. She is just amazing at writing this horrific novels. Again I've only read the first novel of this series but I will be catching p on it soon!

6. Partials by Dan Wells
Again another post-apocalyptic series that is very, very good. Again I have just read the first book, but I do have the other two in the series on my shelves just waiting to pick them up any day now!

7. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
An amazingly constructed series right here. I've read the first two books and have loved them and I immediately got The Last Star on its release date but I'm so afraid to read it to finish this series. I know it will be brilliant though.

8. Legend by Marie Lu

Marie Lu is just an amazing author and her Legend series is proof of that. This dystopian series is anything but cliche, it is an amazingly unique and full of unexpected twists and turns that I would have never expected in a YA novel, Of course, again like all of these books I would recommend this to everyone.

9. Gone by Michael Grant
It was actually a friend of mine that made me read these books and I'm so glad he did. I enjoyed them so much! The whole series was fantastic and a definite recommendation from me. I really enjoy Michael Grant's writing and he is just an amazing person as well!

10. All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill
This standalone novel has got to be the most amazing dystopian / science fiction standalone ever! This book had me on such a roller-coaster of emotions and it was completely unputdownable.

And here it is! The concluding book to Kelley Armstrong's Age of Legends series and I couldn't have asked for anything better.

Ever since finishing the second book Empire of Night I had been anticipating the release of Forest of Ruin. So naturally when it did come out I did my ever best to find this book so that I could read it as soon as possible. Unfortunately traipsing around my local stores brought no luck so I did have to order it online and then wait for its delivery but I soon did have it in my hands and a buddy read ready to go with a friend that I had read the whole series with.

So in Forest of Ruin we did pick up where we left off and I won't say anything more than that for fear of spoilers but my, my, my, was I kept on the edge of my seat throughout the whole of this book? There were twists, turns, events that I would have never thought would have happened and they happened and I was left breathless, in tears, caught in a whirlwind of emotions from betrayal to euphoria to utter devastation. There were plot twists and aspects of legends and stories added to this novel that made it the ever more action packed than it was previous. There were epic battles and times where your heart was in your mouth for fear of characters survival and it was all such a rush.

This concluding novel was everything that I was looking for and more. I am disappointed that the story has come to an end but that was inevitable and I am completely happy with how everything wrapped up in the end.

So if you did enjoy the previous two books or even the first novel and haven't yet continued with the series, the question you must ask yourself is why the hell not? And if you haven't picked up or touched this series yet you should really consider it as you will not regret it especially if you are already a Kelley Armstrong fan or if you are a fan of the dark and gory type of stories, of the stories that you can't predict or that will keep you on the edges of your seats. This is the series for you.

I honestly can not wait to see what else Kelley Armstrong has in store for her new releases especially for her YA audience because I for one will be sure to pick them up.

Friday Reads #4 (August 12 2016)

Here we are for another Friday reads! I'm going to try to make this more of a regular thing now. The book I'm currently reading now is Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor and I'm absolutely loving it! I really can't wait to see what happens but I still don't want the series to end, so I'm taking this slowly...

Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag!!

Here is a tag that has been going around where basically you freak out about the books you've already read this year!! It was firstly created by a booktuber, I'm not sure who, but I do know that the co-creator is ReadLikeWildFire! I am doing this because well, it will damn help a lot when it comes to the end of year tag :P

Here we go :P

*Note - So far in 2016 I have read 22 books,
Fourteen 5 Star Rating,
Five 4 Star Rating,
Three 3 Star Rating*

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">1. Best Book You've Read So Far in 2016?

This is such a hard question. I didn't answer it last but I'll try this year!
By genre!
Science Fiction - Winter by Marissa Meyer
Fantasy - Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
Historical Fiction - Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
Realistic Fiction - The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
Contemporary - Drowning Instinct by Ilsa J. Bick
Adult - Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
Middle Grade - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">2. Best Sequel You've Read So Far in 2016?

The best sequel that I've read so far this year was Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">3. New Release You Haven't Read Yet, But Want To?

There are so many awesome releases that came out this year and it is so difficult to just decide on one but I really, really want to read is The Smell of Other People's Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock. This book just sounds so interesting and it released all the way back in February and I'm still here waiting to read it....

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">4. Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2016?

Again this question is like the last and there is a lot of answers I could give but I'll only go with one and the first book that comes to mind is Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">5. Biggest Disappointment?

My biggest disappointment this year would have to be You by Caroline Kepnes. From the raving reviews I heard about this book I thought that it was going to be amazing, but I really disliked it. I gae this book 3 stars but the more I think about it the less I want to give it. It has actually started to make my blood boil....

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">6. Biggest Surprise?

Hmm, a book doesn't just spring to mind for this one but I'm going to go with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. This year was the first time that I read this book and I read it in one day! That is a feat in itself for me but I just couldn't believe how much I enjoyed reading this book and how much I loved it! Of course I knew I'd love it.

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">7. Favourite New Author?

So far this year I've only read about three new to me authors and I've only read one work each by them but to pick a favourite I would have to go with Jojo Moyes. I read Me Before You and loved it and I have After You sitting on my shelf just waiting to be read next.

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">8. Newest Fictional Crush?
Bloody hell! Many of my fictional crushes for this year were carried over from last year but there are a few new ones - Clark from The Unexpected Everything, Florian from Salt to the Sea and Mark Blackthorn from Lady Midnight.

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">9. Newest Favourite Character?
Ah characters, they all just make me want to add them to my favourites but I'm definitely going with Louisa Clark from Me Before You, Joana & Emilia from Salt to the Sea, Winter from Winter, Caddy & Rosie from Beautiful Broken Things and many many more.

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">10. Book That Made You Cry?
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">11. Book That Made You Happy?
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J. K. Rowling

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">12. <span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Most Beautiful Book You've Bought So Far This Year?
Too complicated! Are we talking beautiful as in writing beautiful or stunning covers? If we're going with stunning covers it is Uprooted by Naomi Novik. I just love the paperback cover for this book!

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">13. <span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of The Year?
Woah, woah, woah... There is a long list!.
Friday Reads #3 (July 8 2016)

I'm making some progress on the list of books that I had on my Goodreads currently reading shelf the last time I posted this! And you can see that below...

But, the main book that I am currently reading is....
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas!
I'm so close to the end of this book, just a tad bit more to go and I am loving it! I actually think I shall have this finished today.

Now back to what Goodreads say I'm currently reading. I'm gone from 11 down to 8, including ACOMAF!

(By order of most read)

Dreams of Gods and Monsters - 22%

A Clash of Kings - 15%

The Lies of Locke Lamora 13%

Poison Study - 7%

The Appearance of Annie van Sinderen - 5%

The Sin Eater's Daughter - 5%

Ten Thousand Skies Above You - 2%

Again I'm slowly planning to get all these books read before starting any more new ones. I kept to that last time and hopefully I'll keep to it again this time!
Question Answers:

1. What sparked your passion for reading?

I alwayss read as a child from books like Animal Ark to Dolphin Diaries and all that type of books but what really started my YA reading crazy fanatics was Twilight. I saw the film in the cinema, found out it was a book and just went from there and here I am!

2. What is your favourite reading spot?

Hmmm, well the place I mostly read is in my room on my computer chair so that must be it!

3. What is your favourite cover art ever?

Too hard of a question..... but I absolutely love this cover recently!

4. How do you deal with your TBR shelf?

I don't... I have all my TBR organised on Goodreads, I've recently made a TBR jar that I pick one book a month from. I now have my TBR books seperate from my read books which gives me motivation to read what I have as I am really picky about keeping series and same authors together so this nearly drives me crazy but it is nice to see how many books I have left to read. I also try to minimize my physical TBR by not buying as much books but I haven't succeeded in that yet...

5. Best book you read in the past year? (No rereads)

The best book I've read in the past year, hmmm, can I pick more than one? No... then it'll have to be, so hard.... -

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

6. Who is your favourite booktuber?

I actually have a lot of favourites but one of those favourites is whittynovels!

7. First book you ever read?

I have no idea... Not the first book ever. But Twilight was the first YA book I read and the first book that started my Goodreads journey too.

8. What is your go to reading snack?

Anything with chocolate in it!

9. Why is reading important to you?

A lot, it is a way of entertainment, escape, an addiction and just something that I thoroughly enjoy.

10. Where would you be without reading?

Honestly I don't know. I don't know what I'd be doing with all my time. I'd probably have a lot more money but other than that I have no idea. It's such a big part of my life, I can't imagine what I'd be doing without it.

11. What is your favourite thing about yourself? (Not book related but still important to know).

Oh God, I hate these questions. They are even worse than the tell me about yourself questions. I love that I'm a compassionate person and animal lover.
I'm so late with this one but hey sure heck! I forgot what days I had and what date..... :/
This was only 2000, but that was too hard so I upped it to 5000. So here are the books:

1. Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Barnard
828 Ratings
This is just a 2016 debut that released back in February and it is seriously an amazing book about female friendships. I just finished this book last week and it was just a perfect read.

2. Unbecoming by Jenny Downham
882 Ratings
I read this book solely because I was going to be meeting the author but then it was such an amazing book. And I'm really shocked to see that it has only 840 ratings. Guys this book is amazing! Seriously!

3. Trouble Is A Friend Of Mine by Stephanie Tromly
1,972 Ratings
Honestly, I wouldn't have picked up this book only for I got it in my owlcrate box and it was so good! It was so funny and entertaining and I really just enjoyed this book. I really recommended this and the sequel is coming out this year.
4. The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich
2,225 Ratings
A seriously impressive and uniquely written story. This novel is one to read at Halloween when it is late and dark. This book was very, very creepy and thrilling. A book that will definitely keep you on your toes especially with the way it was written through interviews, video tapes and diary entries.

5. Empire of Night by Kelley Armstrong
2,937 Ratings
This is the sequel to Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong and honestly it was such an amazing sequel. These books are scarily, horrifically good and this sequel which released in 2015 should have way more ratings!

6. One by Sarah Crossan
3,400 Ratings
A really intriguing and heartbreaking story of conjoined twins. This story was utterly unique in this topic as well as being written in verse. I read this in less than 3 hours and loved every bit of it.

7. Asking For It by Louise O' Neill
3,415 Ratings
Asking For It is such a raw and powerful book about rape and the way that society is around this topic. Louise O Neill really put so much into this book and it is definitely such an inspirational but hard to read novel that is a must read for everyone and I mean everyone.

8. Drowning Instinct by Ilsa J. Bick

3,491 Ratings
I loved Ilsa j. Bick after reading her Ashes trilogy and just had to read her standalone novel about a student / teacher relationship and boy, this book broke me apart,. I was hooked to it and it really, literally had me in pieces once I finished. Honestly for a book that has been out for so long I really expected it to have more ratings.

9. Monsters by Ilsa J. Bick
3,601 Ratings
Another book by Ilsa J. Bick that has been out for many years now and should have way more ratings. This book is the conclusion to the Ashes trilogy and lets just say it is mental. Ashes is all about a zombie apocalypse.

10. The Accident Season by Moira Fowley Doyle
4,996 Ratings
This book is a magical realism novel that was so whimsical and confusing that I just instantly loved it!
TBR Jar Pick is a new little feature, where I pick one book a month from my TBR jar that I have to read during the month.

Last month I got Hour of the Bees by Lindsay Eagar which I gave 3 Stars too and if your interested in my review click here.

My TBR Jar pick for July is .......

All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is twelve, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

In a mining town in Germany, the orphan Werner grows up with his younger sister, enchanted by a crude radio they find. Werner becomes an expert at building and fixing these crucial new instruments, a talent that wins him a place at a brutal academy for Hitler Youth, then a special assignment to track the resistance. More and more aware of the human cost of his intelligence, Werner travels through the heart of the war and, finally, into Saint-Malo, where his story and Marie-Laure’s converge.

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

All The Light We Cannot See was a book that became quite a big deal not too long ago in the book community. This book was everywhere and everyone was saying really great things about this book. So I decided to pick it up while all this hype was going on because I found the concept interesting. I am also a big fan of historical fictions and at that time and even now I am interested in exploring and discovering more in the adult fiction genre. So now that I finally have this book on my TBR I am excited to see what I think.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">FREEBIE - The Last Ten Books Added To My Goodreads Wishlist

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish and consists of them picking a topic each week for us bloggers to list our Top Ten.

So for this freebie week I'm going to let yu all know the last ten books that I've added as To-Read on Goodreads which is essentially my Wishlist for books that I wish to get and read!

1. The Girl With All The Gifts by M.R. Carey
I just saw the movie trailer just a few days ago and instantly had to add this to my wishlist. No one told me this book was about zombies? Why didn't anyone tell me this book was about zombies??

2. Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas
I've seen this book get a lot of hype recently on BookTube so decided to add it my wishlist. I actually thought this book was a new release but it came out a few years ago so I'm super excited to get it and see why the hype is only coming around now.

3. Crescent City by Sarah J. Maas
Sarah J. Maas has anther WIP. So of course I had to add it.

4. Twilight of the Gods by Sarah J. Maas
Same as above. Sarah J. Maas. Enough said!

5. Emperor of the Eight Islands by Lian Hearn
I actually just saw this book in the book shop when I was browsing through the shelves and it looked very interesting. So I snapped a pic to google it on Goodreads when I got home and added it to my wishlist.

6. My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows & Brodi Ashton
This book has been everywhere! So following the hype like a sheep I've added it to my Goodreads wishlist.

7. Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire

8. Dark Horses by Cecily von Ziegesar

It's a Black Beauty retelling!!!

9. Firstlife by Gena Showalter
Another book that got me intrigued from the cover alone. So yes it is a cover add but I'm hoping it is just as good as it's cover!

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "georgia" , serif; line-height: 19.32px;">Book 20/65 - 2016 Goodreads Reading Challenge

Hour of the Bees was a book I received in a goody bag back in October 2015 and I was excited by the premise f this book and continuously said that I should be this open solely for the reason that this is a magical realism book. Magical Realism is a new, exciting genre that I have gotten myself into and loved each book I've read from that genre which is mainly just The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender and The Accident Season. So I was expecting to go into a marvelous, whimsical, confusing, yet beautiful story, but I was highly disappointed.

As I started the beginning of this book I realised I couldn't connect with out 12 year old protagonist, Carol. Must of the times I usually have this problem when reading from a younger protagonists point of view so I let this slide and continued on with the story.

But even as I reached that halfway point, I was considering giving up on this book. I, honestly, highly contemplated DNFing this book because I just couldn't get into it. It bored me. Instead of finding a beautiful whimsical writing style and story I found that the writing in this book was for a younger audience. It just didn't click with me in the way writing styles should. One thing about the book that I found to be quite awkward especially at the beginning was the way that Serge's story was told. I felt like it could have been told in such a more unique and better way than it was presented in this book but alas that might be just my nitty picky feelings.

So even though I was highly considering DNFing this book I soldiered on and I found a story that really made me feel. It was towards the end of the book where things really turned around. Where events started happening, where characters developed, where there was this feeling that just kept me going. I nearly cried so many times while reading the end of this book and the characters really did change for me.

Serge would have had to be my favourite character in this book and of course his little dog Ines. He had just so much character and I really cared about him. Carol was ok, I did start to like her more as the story progressed, The other characters in the book were just annoying and I honestly didn't like them even if they did turn around in the end, There was the big sister who did some horrible things and just turned around saying 'I'm a teenager, what do you expect?' Eh no, and then the father. he did some awful, horrible things to Serge. I don't care if you hate the guy, there is literally a moral line you do not cross and he crossed it and I was shocked.

But in the end, I really enjoyed the latter quarter - half of this book. I really liked the way that the two stories that were being told entwined with each other at the end. And this book does leave you to think about life and death in a whole new light and I will still be lingering with those questions in my mind for a long time to come.

Dad? Avoid him as much as possible (which isn’t that hard considering he’s a Congressman and he’s never around).
Friends? Palmer, Bri, and Toby—pretty much the most awesome people on the planet, who needs anyone else?
So it’s no surprise that Andie’s got her summer all planned out too.

Until a political scandal costs Andie her summer pre-med internship, and lands both she and Dad back in the same house together for the first time in years. Suddenly she’s doing things that aren’t Andie at all—working as a dog walker, doing an epic scavenger hunt with her dad, and maybe, just maybe, letting the super cute Clark get closer than she expected. Palmer, Bri, and Toby tell her to embrace all the chaos, but can she really let go of her control?

I think everyone has heard the story that it was Morgan Matson who made me read contemporary books so I won't bore everyone and go into that long tuned story. But because of this it was a given that I would be reading her new novel.

And when I heard what that novel was going to be about and then when I saw the cover I was hooked, A dog walking summer job in a Morgan Matson book. I am an animal lover so of course this just appealed to me even more.

And boy did I love it! Of course I did! I felt like this book was right on par with Since You've Been Gone which was one of my absolute favourites on 2015. I really enjoyed this contemporary novel, because Morgan Matson does a marvelous job of writing a summer romance into such a bigger topic. All of Morgan Matson's books seem to focus on the main character finding herself, but around all different situations and I just love them for that.

With Since You've Been Gone, I instantly connected with Emily as she was so much like me. I saw myself in everything that she did because she was inevitably like me personality wise. This was not the case with Andie but I really enjoyed her as a character. I found her to be such a complex character and she has so much to go through in the space between this book and I found that she grew so much in this book.

All the characters were so realistic in this novel. I loved the fact that everyone was so different and that Morgan Matson did incorporate a writer along with characters mentioned in previous books in The Unexpected Everything.

Above all, the story was amazing, It made me happy. It made me sad. It made me angry, It made me laugh. It made me cry. This book inevitably made me feel so much while I was reading it. It was a book that I was hooked to, a story I didn't want to see finish but I found the way Morgan Matson wrote this book was just incredible. I enjoyed the ending just as much as the beginning and I really hope that possibly just like we saw previous characters in this novel that we may see these characters in another book especially Bertie! The dogs in this book just made the story all that more enjoyable for me.

Now I have read a total of 3 of Morgan Matson's work under her own name - Second Chance Summer, Since You've Been Gone and The Unexpected Everything. I just got myself Amy and Roger's Epic Detour and seriously cannot wait to read it.

2016 releases that I have read that I loved... hmmm.... let me think. Honestly I don't think I've read many 2016 releases so far yet... so, in no particular order:

1. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
I think this was pretty obvious that Lady Midnight was going to be on this list. I loved this book so much as you have seen from my review and I actually cannot wait for the next book to come out.

2. Stars Above by Marissa Meyer
I was highly anticipating this release and of course I loved it! Of course I did, it is Marissa Meyer and The Lunar Chronicles.

3. Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys.
I fellin love with Ruta Sepetys after reading her second published novel, Out of the Easy, then I went back and read her debut and I of course read her new release, Salt to the Sea, which I absolutely adored. Such a fabulous book!

4. The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
Finally the last 2016 book that I completed and loved was The Unexpected Everything. I just finished this book a few days ago and it was just an awesome summer read. Sunshine, summer, dogs, first love, finding yourself, what more could you want from a book?
<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">It's early 1945 and a group of people trek across Germany, bound together by their desperation to reach the ship that can take them away from the war-ravaged land. Four young people, each haunted by their own dark secret, narrate their unforgettable stories. Fans of The Book Thief or Helen Dunmore's The Siege will be totally absorbed.
<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="color: purple; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">This inspirational novel is based on a true story from the Second World War. When the German ship the Wilhelm Gustloff was sunk in port in early 1945 it had over 9000 civilian refugees, including children, on board. Nearly all were drowned. Ruta Sepetys, acclaimed author of Between Shades of Grey, brilliantly imagines their story.

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "georgia" , serif; line-height: 19.32px;">Book 18/65 - 2016 Goodreads Reading Challenge

What can I truly say about Salt to the Sea, other than that it left me in a blubbering mess in a heap on the floor. Ruta Sepetys is just amazing when it comes to writing historical fiction novels that are just heartbreaking. After reading her previous two works I just knew that I was going to love this book just as much as I did the others.

One thing I love about Ruta Sepetys is that she picks the topics that are less well known. I studied history all through primary school and then for three years in secondary school and it was a subject that I loved but in all of that time spent learning different facts and stories from history, not once did I ever hear of the tragedy that was the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff. This was the greatest sinking of that time period and not once had I heard about it only when I read the blurb for Salt to the Sea. So of course I let Ruta Sepetys tell me the story.

And what a marvelous storyteller she was. This book had me gripped to each page. I was in an in-between state where I didn't want to put it down and I didn't want to read it for I knew it wasn't going to end well for everyone. That was a given. But I absolutely adored how Ruta Sepetys told this story, through the lives of four very different teenagers who were all going to come together under the horrendous conditions that they were all facing. I loved the fast, short, alternating chapters, I loved how she associated each character with a feeling; guilt, fate, shame, fear.

I loved how we didn't know everything about each character straight away. I loved how we found out little, impacting pieces about them throughout the whole story, I loved how Ruta Sepetys made these characters so real that it was like they were just sitting beside you. I loved that these characters grew, held and kept a place in my heart even after I finished that last page. I loved that this book made me feel so much. I just loved this book.

Which you could have probably figured out by the amount of times I used the work love or any of its variations in the above two characters. But going back to a more serious note, this book was like nothing that I've read before. I would rank this book high up on my favourites shelf, right beside The Book Thief by Markus Zusack and I know it will stay there. I know that I'm going to be picking up this book again and again and each time I will feel the exact same feelings as I did the first time because that is just how powerful this book is. It is a definite read for everyone.

And I honestly can not wait for Ruta Sepetys next book, whatever it will be about, I know I will love it.

Stars Above! I loved this little book of novellas! Usually, to be honest I'm not a fan of novellas except when they add extra to a series such as with The Assassian's Blade by Sarah J. Maas and I can really say the same for these novellas. Even though they didn't match up to tell a story like The Assassian's Blade, they were still so amazingly good. I'm just going to go through my individual thoughts for each novella:

BEWARE OF SPOILERS!

The Keeper -
I loved seeing Michelle again in this novella. Seriously her death was just so sad in Scarlet and I was really interested to get a bit of the story of how she became the caretaker of Cinder/Selene and I finnaly got to see this here. I really enjoyed this little novella. Not my favourite but really enjoyable.

Glitches -
Another story that I feel added a lot to the series especially since we saw the family ties and tension that was there with Cinder and her adopted family and Iko. Aww Iko! I enjoyed this novella too.

The Queen's Army -
This has got to be one of my all time favourites in this little book of novellas. I loved seeing Wolf, how he was recruited, wha happened to him, his relationship with his brother and of course how he became alpha. I really, really enjoyed this novella. It was just simply amazing.

Carswell's Guide To Being Lucky -
I enjoyed seeing this side of Carswell and his robotic cat. I loved how he was still such a quirky character even at a young age but I believe I would have perferred to see a different story of Carswell's. Maybe how he was arrested or just some of those criminal adventures that he had had. But I still ejoyed this little story.

After Sunshine Passes By -
Oh Cress. This one just made me feel so sorry for Cress. I liked seeing how she got to be living alone in a satelite but I just felt so bad for her. She's such a lovely character too.

The Princess And The Guard -
Another absolute favourite story of mine in this little book of novellas. I loved seeing Winter's and Jacin's relationship as they grew up and how it slightly changed after that fundemental decision for Jacin to join The Guard rather than becoming a doctor just to keep Winter safe. Absolutely loved this story.

The Little Android -
Aww I loved this little story. A Little Mermaid retelling as androids? Yes please! And I just really enjoyed it.

The Mechanic -
Kai! Kai! Kai! I loved seeing Kai's perspective when he first meets Cinder and I just found it unbelievably cute, and awwwww....

Something Old, Something New -
Another favourite again! I loved seeing what has happened after the events of Winter and that wedding was just so cute and again awww....

Read-A-Thon's I'm Taking Part In

I've decided to take part in some upcoming read-a-thons and I am just really excited for them to start and yay!

The first read-a-thon that I'm taking part in begins on Sunday June 5 and runs until June 19th. It is the TOME TOPPLE READ-A-THON hosted by Thoughtsontomes and is all about reading big books! Books that are over 500 pages long!!

I already have my tbr chosen and you can expect that post tomorrow!! Let's just say I'm really excited to read all the books that I've picked out and well my tbr may be slightly ambitious. (just slightly)....

The next read-a-thon that I'm participating in is the FANTASY FAVOURITES READ-A-THON. This is hosted by Olivia @ Olivia's Catastrophe and Inge and Aly @ Of Wonderland. I will again be posting my participation post with my tbr closer to the date which is July 10th - July 18th. I can't wait.

Finally the last event I'm participating in is a read-a-long! It's a read-a-long for the series A Song Of Ice And Fire by George R. R. Martin! This read-a-long has a ton of hosts and so you all should check out the Goodreads Group or follow the hashtag on twitter #readasoiaf What happens is that each month starting in June all the participants will be reading one book from the series per month. So for June, everyone is reading A Game of Thrones, I won't be starting with this as I've just read it last year or the beginning of this year and instead I'll be beginning in July with A Clash Of Kings and you guys can be sure you'll be hearing updates from me on this read-a-long!

And that guys, are the read-a-thons / read-a-longs that I'm going to participating in in the near future,
