This series is a spin off to Vampire Academy and at first when I heard about it I was very apprehensive to read it. I actually said I wasn't going to read it for Vampire Academy was such an amazing series. Then I bought the book and curiosity got the better of me and I decided to read it and I'm glad I did.
I must say it was weird to read a book that had Rose as a side character, but the main character Sydney was just as likeable. It was nice to see from Sydney's point of view and to delve into the world of the Alchemists while still being in the vampire world. Sydney is such a contrast to Rose but I still love her as a protagonist.
I loved seeing more of Adrian as well. He is such a complex character and very, very likeable. I actually liked all the characters, but Sydney and Adrian are my favourite.
As for the twist and turns of the plot, they were completely unexpected. I couldn't believe what happened at the end. Who wouldn't want to know what's going to happen with that for an ending.
