City of Heavenly Fire is the last instalment of The Mortal Instruments series. It follows the lives of all our well known characters - Jace, Clary, Simon, Isabelle, Alec, Magnus and all the others - as they fight a powerful war against the evil brother of Clary, Sebastian, as he tries to turn the world into desolation.

As you can see I gave this book 5 stars. Why? That answer would contain a lot of spoilers, so I'm going to give you a brief, emotional, non-spoiler answer about my feelings for the final book in The Mortal Instruments series.

When I first got my hands on this book, I was overly excited, but scared as well. This was the last book. Six people we knew were going to die!! I was afraid about how it would all end and I am going to admit that here. The Shadowhunter world is one of my favourite worlds ever - ok, I lie, it is my favourite world. Nothing, so far has topped the Shadowhunters in my mind. Betweeen The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments, I was in love and I still am as The Dark Artifices comes into play. I must say that Cassandra Clare did a genius job of introducing the main characters in The Dark Artifices into City of Heavenly Fire. Already I love them, Emma and Julian, and can't wait for the release of their series. 

City of Heavenly Fire had me in a whirlwind of emotions, at the start, mostly anguish and anticipating as the tension of battle grew and surprising twists and turns were revealed. Then towards the end I was upset, crying for someone I didn't expect to cry for, actually for two characters I didn't expect to cry for, as more unexpected twists came to play. These were completely unexpected to me and added to my love of the book, even though they broke my heart. For all of you who have read the book, I think you know what I'm talking about and who I am talking about also. But the final ending had me happy in a bittersweet way. It was a perfect ending, sweet as it tied up all loose ends but bitter because of the fact that everything had changed and this was the end I'd see of these characters that grew on me so much. 

So, in the end, this is a farewell to The Mortal Instruments in the most perfect way imaginable.
