Best of the Bunch #1 - June 2015

Best of the Bunch #1 - June 2015

Best of the Bunch is a monthly meme hosted over at A Cocoon of Books. What it is is that you give the Best of the Bunch award to one book which you have read in that month.

I am new to this, so here is my first ever Best of the Bunch!!

In June I read a total of 5 Book, 2 of which got a 5 star rating from me. But for this prize I can only choose one and the book that is getting he Best of the Bunch award is......

I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson

From the author of The Sky Is Everywhere, a radiant novel that will leave you laughing and crying - all at once. For fans of John Green, Gayle Forman and Lauren Oliver. Jude and her twin Noah were incredibly close - until a tragedy drove them apart, and now they are barely speaking. Then Jude meets a cocky, broken, beautiful boy as well as a captivating new mentor, both of whom may just need her as much as she needs them. What the twins don't realize is that each of them has only half the story and if they can just find their way back to one another, they have a chance to remake their world.

I must admit that I was skeptical going into this one because of the fact that I hadn't enjoyed Jandy Nelson's previous book and also because the synopsis/blurb was quite vague. But am I glad that I did take the leap of faith and read this one. It was truly amazing and I would dearly recommend it to everyone.

Crazy For Summer Read-A-Thon - Day 2 (Poetry)

Crazy For Summer Read-A-Thon - Day 2 (Poetry)

Today's the second day of the Crazy For Summer Read-A-Thon and today's challenge is to write a poem in the style of George Ella Lyon to express your feelings and thoughts about reading, blooging and books and how they have affected you in your life.

I'm not the best with poetry, but I'm giving this challenge a go so here it is!! :)

I am from books, from walker and bloomsbury.
I am from the land like no other, where people live a thousand lives through the eyes of others.
I am from the trees, the breathing pulp that creates the soft, comforting feel of the pages between my fingers.
I am from reading before bed and turning the lights down low, from dreaming of Will, Karou and Snow.
I am from getting lost in the words and forgetting about reality.
From 'You have too many books' and 'Don't spend all day reading'.
I am from a complicated relationship, that makes me jump for joy and breaks me into pieces.
I'm from a different world, a different time, past or future.
From the no more room on my shelves to the having too much room.
I am from a world like no other and one I will never leave.

And click here for the template that I used also :P

Thank you!!

Answer To Two Truths and A Lie
Dun, Dun, Dun, my lie was that 'I live in the city.'
I actually live in a quite remote area out in the countryside with farms and stables as my neighbours and a mountain just a couple miles away, quite a stunning view from my kitchen window actually.
But yes I actually do have 6 pets, 2 dogs, a cat, a leopard gecko and 2 goldfish and I also don't know how to ride a bike, which may be shameful, but the situation never arised after I left stabilisers :P
Congrats to everyone who got it right!! :)

Crazy For Summer Read-A-Thon Day 1

Crazy For Summer Read-A-Thon Day 1

Today is the day!! It's the start of the Crazy For Summer Read-a-thon and I am extremely excited!! For this read-a-thon I am really pushing to complete my set tbr because I have not done this yet for any read-a-thon that I have participated in so far.

Anyhoo, there are all different challenges each day as well as Twitter chats and overall challenges too, so yay!! excitement ahead.

For Day 1, there are 3 different challenges /  things to do and they are as follows:

1. Get To Know You Questions

1. What is your favourite thing about reading?
I just love reading, as I'm sure you can all guess, and the reason I love reading is to get away in a different world, a different story. I just love the escape and adventure part of reading.

2. What is your favourite thing about blogging?
My favourite thing about blogging is getting to express myself and talk about what I have a passion for with all of you very passionate people too.

3. What is your favourite thing about Summer?
Summer, Summer, Summer!! Hmmm my favourite part of Summer would be the vacation mostly :P

4. If you could take a summer vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go??
Honestly, I have this whole list of places I would like to go, it's practically everywhere in the world. But for summer,I wouldn't want to go somewhere too hot. I know, summer is all about the heat but the truth is I'm not a fan of it. After all, I come from Ireland and when the temperature push above 20 degrees it is too hot. So round about answer I would go to Venice or Prague :P

5. What is your favourite book of the year so far?
So far this year I have rated 11 books with full 5 stars and to say which one is my favourite is extremely difficult, too difficult so here are just a few:
- I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson
- The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender
- More Than This by Patrick Ness
- Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

6. Coke or Pepsi?
Neither I only drink water :P

7. Fantasy or Sci-Fi?
Both!!

8. Hardcovers or Paperbacks?
Paperbacks!! I just love them a lot more. They are cheaper, look great and easier to hold while reading it.

9. Chocolate or Vanilla?
Hmm, this really depends on what you're referring too. For ice-cream it's vanilla cause I hate chocolate ice-cream but for everything else chocolate rules!! :D

10. What is your favourite tv show at the moment?
My favourite tv show right now is Pretty Little Liars!! I started watching it a few days ago on Netflix and have just been hooked since. Currently I'm watching Season 1 Episode 13!!

2. Two Truths and a Lie
This one is simple!! I state three facts about myself and you have to decide, or figure out which one is a lie!!
Here are my facts!!

1. I have 6 pets.
2. I live in the city.
3. I don't know how to cycle a bike.

3. My Crazy For Summer Read-A-Thon Goals

Personal Project - Defeating My TBR

Personal Project - Defeating My TBR

I have been in a war with my TBR since I became a reader, yes, even before I discovered BookTube or Blogging. So you can imagine how the war is going now. I honestly can't even remember a time when I didn't have a TBR.

But even though I said I am in a war, I really don't want to get rid of my TBR either. I just want it to become manageable. Manageable being having a TBR of a number between 10 and 20 books. That is manageable. For me anyway. Unfortunately I am no where near this number as many of you may know already.

As of right now, I have 129 books on my TBR. This number has been staying the same for the last year simply because for the amount of books I read, I buy new books and suddenly the number is the same again.

I have really tried many things to cut down on my TBR though. I have went on the dreaded book buying ban (which have all failed miserably), I have sorted out my shelves, I have done challenges to motivate myself to keep reading but no solution seems to be getting my TBR down... (you can keep an eye out for later discussions about tbr's, book buying bans and unhauls in the future). But for now, yup, none of those means have worked.

I have started a new ritual though. It is of sorts a book buying ban but it is more easier for me and more tailored to suit my means. For anyone who read my wrap-up you know what I'm talking about for those of you who haven't, here's what it is:
From phase 1 - 5 for every 3 books I read, I get to buy a book, then from phase 6 - 10 for every 5 books I read I get to buy a book and this continues along until the maximum for every 10 books I read I get to buy a new book.

Therefore if I keep to this schedule by the end of the year my TBR should be 100 books, as I should be able to finish Phase 10 by the end of he year.

It'll be nowhere near my goal of between 10 and 20 but it would be a massive improvement on how things are currently.

So that is it for this post, and look out for future posts and updates either in my wrap ups or in an individual post of it's own. (I haven't decided yet...)
