September 2015

September 2015 Book Haul / Wrap Up

Oh boy, September, September, September, what did you do to me!?? September definitely screwed me over but it was so good!! No regrets!!

September 2015 Book Haul

I bought a hell of a lot of books this month. So, so many....

  • Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater
  • The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell
  • The Next Together by Lauren James
  • Apple and Rain by Sarah Crossan
  • Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo
  • Ruins by Dan Wells
  • Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver
  • Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

I have sort of started a book instagram. I don't post too regularly but I'm trying to spruce up my pictures if books as you may notice in the single book pictures on the side there but anyway.

The Next Together. The Next Together is a new release by Lauren James and it is a romantic, time travelling type story. I picked this up because I just loved the premise of the story and because of that gorgeous cover! It's so darn pretty. Recently I just found out that there is going to be a sequel to this book too which is exciting news, especially if I love this book as much as I'm hoping to.

Sinner. Sinner is the fourth book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater and is centred around Cole. Cole! I love Cole! I received this book in a goody bag at the Jandy Nelson book signing. I got Sinner and it's an arc too :D Because they changed the covers anyway so I would have never got a matching cover but I like this!

The Wolf Wilder. The Wolf Wilder, I believe is a middle grade book. Although it's going around as Young Adult too so I'm not sure which genre this falls into. But anyway I went into the bookshop with a little bit of left over money and saw this book and just decided yup, you're the one for me! This book is just such a beauty and there are gorgeous illustrations inside too. I literally cannot wait to get into this book. And do you like my wolf cub teddy??? Isn't he cute :p

Heir of Fire. Heir of Fire is the third book in the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. I had such a heart attack relating to this book. I am collecting the paperback versions and I preordered this to find out they couldn't find a copy for me, but thankfully it was all sorted!

Apple and Rain. I bought at the Sarah Crossan signing because I was intrigued by this book and while I was meeting her I decided to get it and have it signed too!

Pandemonium. Sequel to Delirium. It's about time I got back with this series!

Ruin and Rising. This book finally released in the standard sized paperbacks here in Ireland so I could finally get it because I had both the previous titles in that size and I needed my series set to match, so yes I waited for this one to release besides I haven't read Siege and Storm yet either which I need to! What is wrong with me!!

Ruins. Ruins is the final book in the Partials Sequence Trilogy. I loved Partials and have and cannot wait to read Fragments so when I saw this book up in Dublin I jumped at the chance at getting it because if I didn't I 'd either have to order this online or order it from my local branch of the store because they wouldn't have stocked it. But yay! another series complete in this haul too!!

September 2015 Wrap Up

Wishlist Wednesday #9

Wishlist Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted over at Pen to Paper. This meme is where you showcase one book that is on your wishlist and that you can't wait to get off your wishlist and into your hands.

On my Wishlist Wednesday today is....

Crank by Ellen Hopkins
Crank (Crank, #1)

In Crank, Ellen Hopkins chronicles the turbulent and often disturbing relationship between Kristina, a character based on her own daughter, and the "monster," the highly addictive drug crystal meth, or "crank." Kristina is introduced to the drug while visiting her largely absent and ne'er-do-well father. While under the influence of the monster, Kristina discovers her sexy alter-ego, Bree: "there is no perfect daughter, / no gifted high school junior, / no Kristina Georgia Snow. / There is only Bree." Bree will do all the things good girl Kristina won't, including attracting the attention of dangerous boys who can provide her with a steady flow of crank.

After now reading a book in verse and loving it, I am now not daunted by that style of writing and well everyone always raves about Ellen Hopkins so now I have added her book 'Crank' onto my wishlist. This book seems like such a dark book, that I am just so intrigued to know what happens in the book that it was an instant add to my wishlist after seeing this. I know this book has been out for many years now, but it is just now that I added it onto my wishlist therefore that is why I am featuring it here.

Have you read this book??

Best of the Bunch #4 - September 2015

Best of the Bunch #4 - September 2015

Best of the Bunch is a monthly meme hosted over at A Cocoon of Books. What it is is that you give the Best of the Bunch award to one book which you have read in that month.

I only read 4 book this month *cue sadness* and only 1 of these books got a 5 star rating, so it is a no-brainer this month!

And the book is ......

Trouble Is A Friend Of Mine by Stephanie Tromly

Trouble Is a Friend of Mine

Of course I didn’t like Digby when I first met him. No one does.

The first time Philip Digby shows up on Zoe Webster’s doorstep, he’s rude and he treats her like a book he’s already read and knows the ending to.

But before she knows it, Zoe’s allowed Digby—annoying, brilliant, and somehow…attractive? Digby—to drag her into a series of hilarious, dangerous, and only vaguely legal schemes all related to the kidnapping of a local teenage girl. A kidnapping that might be connected to the tragic disappearance of his little sister eight years ago. When it comes to Digby, Zoe just can’t say no.

But is Digby a hero? Or is his manic quest an indication of a desperate attempt to repair his broken family and exorcize his own obsessive-compulsive tendencies? And does she really care anyway?

This was a really surprising book for me. I actually thought before I started that I was just going to be meh about this but, but.... I loved this!! It was just so quirky and fun, that I couldn't help not loving it. Digby was just one of those love at first sight characters and Zoe was also a very connectable character for me too. I just loved this, that's all I can say. This is basically like my guilty pleasure reads just like The Selection series.

What was your Best of The Bunch for the month of September?? :)

Top Ten Books To Read If You Like I'll Give You The Sun.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish and consists of them picking a topic each week for us bloggers to list our Top Ten.

I find these topics just so hard to do because of the fact that I read such a mix of books but I feel like maybe I could get ten with this topic and I'm going for Jandy Nelson's I'll Give You The Sun, simply because I met her only two days ago and she is such an awesome person (look out for a post about the signing) but anyhoo the books featured below are just going to be beautifully written, lyrical books just like Jandy Nelson's I'll Give You The Sun!

Wishlist Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted over at Pen to Paper. This meme is where you showcase one book that is on your wishlist and that you can't wait to get off your wishlist and into your hands.

On my Wishlist Wednesday today is....

Rook by Sharon Cameron
Rook

History has a way of repeating itself. In the Sunken City that was once Paris, all who oppose the new revolution are being put to the blade. Except for those who disappear from their prison cells, a red-tipped rook feather left in their place. Is the mysterious Red Rook a savior of the innocent or a criminal?

Meanwhile, across the sea in the Commonwealth, Sophia Bellamy’s arranged marriage to the wealthy René Hasard is the last chance to save her family from ruin. But when the search for the Red Rook comes straight to her doorstep, Sophia discovers that her fiancé is not all he seems. Which is only fair, because neither is she.

As the Red Rook grows bolder and the stakes grow higher, Sophia and René find themselves locked in a tantalizing game of cat and mouse.

Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow! I am literally so in love with the premise of this book. I really want to read this. And look at that stunning cover. I haven't read anything else by Sharon Cameron but this book just has me so intrigued and I cannot wait to get my hands on it, even though I'm sorta waiting for the paperback edition to come out and I want the cover to also be the same but we'll wait and see.

Top Ten Tuesday #21

Top Ten Books On My Fall TBR.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish and consists of them picking a topic each week for us bloggers to list our Top Ten.

I'm sure I mention this every time but my fall season started in August and consists of the months of August, September and October therefore the following books are books I really want to read for the rest of September and October :P Also as a side note, these are all books that I currently own so no fall releases will be mentioned in this post, because I do not own any of them yet....

1. Trouble Is A Friend Of Mine by Stephanie Tromly
The August Owlcrate book!! I really want to read this during the month of September!! Because it seems like such a good, interesting read. But I must admit, it is also a book I wouldn't have picked up either so yay! new book reading experiences :P

2. The Sin Eater's Daughter by Melinda Salisbury
Another book I want to get read in September! This one just had me completely intrigued by the synopsis / blurb and by that gorgeous cover. I just hope it live up to my expectations now.

3. The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
I love the concept of this book and really, I need some vampires in my life again. They've been lacking for a while now and I hope this is the book that brings them back (in a good way) for me!

Trouble Is a Friend of MineThe Sin Eater’s Daughter (The Sin Eater’s Daughter, #1)The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1)

4. Empire of Night by Kelley Armstrong
Then to start off my October, I want to start with this creepy read! I loved the first book, Sea of Shadows and cannot wait to find out what happens with my new fictional crush from this series, especially after reading the ending of the first book ....

5. Monsters by Ilsa J. Bick
Another scary read featuring zombies!! This is the final book in the Ashes Trilogy by Ilsa J. Bick and I cannot wait to see how things go down, like seriously how is this going to end?

6. The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
Keeping with the zombie theme, here's another book that I want to read during October.

Empire of Night (Age of Legends, #2)Monsters (Ashes Trilogy, #3)The Forest of Hands and Teeth (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #1)

7. The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich
A new release of 2015 which just seems so creepy and perfect for Halloween. I can't wait to read this one!

8. A Clash of Kings by George R. R. Martin
And lastly, this monster of a book. I need to continue on with this series and no better time than the fall!

The Dead HouseA Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2)

And that is it!! I didn't make it to 10 because seriously I think I'd be under a lot of pressure to read 10 books during the fall period so I've stuck with 8. Let me know down below if you've read any of these or if you want to :)

Wishlist Wednesday #7

Wishlist Wednesday #7

Wishlist Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted over at Pen to Paper. This meme is where you showcase one book that is on your wishlist and that you can't wait to get off your wishlist and into your hands.

On my Wishlist Wednesday today is....

Daughter of Deep Silence by Carrie Ryan
Daughter of Deep Silence

I’m the daughter of murdered parents.
I’m the friend of a dead girl.
I’m the lover of my enemy.
And I will have my revenge.

In the wake of the devastating destruction of the luxury yacht Persephone, just three souls remain to tell its story—and two of them are lying. Only Frances Mace knows the terrifying truth, and she’ll stop at nothing to avenge the murders of everyone she held dear. Even if it means taking down the boy she loves and possibly losing herself in the process.

Sharp and incisive, Daughter of Deep Silence by bestselling author Carrie Ryan is a deliciously smart revenge thriller that examines perceptions of identity, love, and the lengths to which one girl is willing to go when she thinks she has nothing to lose.

This book just sounds so so good! I literally cannot wait to get my hands on this one! There's just this awesome mysterious, revenge air about this book that it has me so intrigued!. It's already been released since May in hardback but I'm also patiently waiting for the paperback to release.

One by Sarah Crossan Launch Party

One by Sarah Crossan Launch Party

On Thursday last week - September 10th 2015 - I decided to trek up to Dublin for Sarah Crossan's One Launch Party!! It was held by Easons in their O Connell Street Store, which is huge!! Seriously, I'm from down the country so coming to Dublin to Easons is awesome. The store is so much bigger and so better stocked than my usual Eason outlets so of course I bought 'some' books, which ya'll can see at the end of the month in my wrap up. And I gawked at a Batman Christmas Jumper for ages! I will have thee, but just not yet...

Pictured above are the poster and then the display that I was greeted by when I entered the Department 51 section of Easons. Isn't it just gorgeous. The book itself is gorgeous but come on, that display just looks so well, with the posters and different display of hardcover and paperback books!

Easons kindly offered champagne (I'm not a drinker, so I didn't have any) and an arrange of sweets for all of us who attended while we waited for Sarah Crossan to come and begin the launch party. I went to this on my own. My Dad drove me up to Dublin and then he had some shopping to do so I was in Easons alone but I made some awesome new friends who were also at the launch party. We're all meeting up again at the next signings to come so you'll hear more then :P

Once Sarah Crossan arrived the launch began and it began with Sarah Bannan, the author who wrote Weightless (which I am now very intrigued to read by the way) saying some absolutely amazing and heartwarming things about Sarah Crossan's book One and about Sarah Crossan herself!.
Then Sarah came up and talked all about her book, mentioned a load of people and thanked them all and read a small excerpt from her book, One. The excerpt is the poem entitled The Reader (page 159 in the paperback edition) if ya'll want to check it out!

Then came the signing!! I had already owned One and had read it just the week before. It is a fantastic book, my review will be posted soon. So I got that book signed. I also asked Sarah to sign my copies of Breathe and Resist and I had also bought Apple and Rain while I was up there to also get signed! So in total I got four books signed by the wonderful Sarah Crossan! And a picture taken too :P

And that is all! A fantastic night was had and Sarah Crossan is just a lovely, truly inspiring author and I am so glad that I met her!
